I met my fiancĂ© John when I joined the University Singers in January 2012. We had some memorable initial conversations that spring semester, but we really had a chance to connect when we were cast as romantic opposites in the department of Theater & Music’s production of Sweeney Todd in Fall 2012 (he was Anthony, I was Johanna). Since we would be spending so much time together in rehearsals, John asked me to lunch so that we could “get to know each other better.” Little did we know, that first date would lead to an incredible future!
We dated through the rest of John’s senior year, and had some amazing opportunities together, including attending the GW Inaugural Ball and going on a tour with the University Singers to South Africa.
After John graduated, understanding that our lives were moving in different directions, we separated while he moved to Wisconsin for a job and I studied abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark. Fortunately for me, John chose to move back home to New Hampshire after 6 months in Wisconsin in search of a different career opportunity.
We were able to meet up while I was back home in Rhode Island on winter break, a mere 2 hour drive from his hometown, and rekindled our relationship. We continued to date long-distance from New Hampshire to DC until I graduated a semester early in January 2015 and moved to New Hampshire with a job opportunity in northern Massachusetts.
We became engaged close to a year and a half ago and recently purchased a home together. We’ll be married in Providence, Rhode Island in August of this year, and look forward to a future with many trips back to GW where it all began!
