Regional Volunteer Spotlight: Sarah Gibson

Sarah GibsonSarah Gibson, CCAS BA ’07
GW Boston Alumni Network Co-Chair

VOLUNTEER POSITION: I am a Co-Chair of the GW Boston Alumni Network. We plan about 8-10 events annually for Boston area alumni.

ACTIVITIES AT GW: STAR, University Events student employee, WRGW Radio staff

WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO VOLUNTEER YOUR TIME AND GIVE BACK TO GW? I enjoyed my time at GW immensely, and missed that sense of community post college. I think it’s a great way to network and connect with other alumni.

WHY DO YOU THINK IT IS IMPORTANT FOR ALUMNI TO VOLUNTEER AND GIVE BACK TO THEIR ALMA MATER? Each person has their own reason for volunteering and giving back – for me it’s about appreciation and affiliation.

BRIEFLY DESCRIBE THE IMPACT YOUR VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE HAS HAD ON THE GREATER GW COMMUNITY. I hope that my volunteer experience has fostered a community network in the Boston area and connected those that are new here, or from here, and gives alumni a sense of familiarity and philanthropy while encouraging them to try new activities.

PLEASE DESCRIBE HOW YOUR VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE HAS IMPACTED YOUR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT. Making connections with various alumni who have chosen many different career paths is always interesting. Plus, I’ve made some great friends as a volunteer.

WHAT IS YOUR PROUDEST ACCOMPLISHMENT AS A VOLUNTEER? Whenever we plan a successful event or are able give back to the community as a volunteer group – I am proud of the work we are doing.

DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR ALUMNI WANTING TO GET INVOLVED? Go to an event near you! Don’t wait!
