Colonial Love Q & A: Rodolfo & Julia

Thanks to Rodolfo De La Cruz, ESIA MA ’14, and Julia De La Cruz, ESIA MA ’15,  for sharing their story!

Where did you meet on campus? We met outside the Elliott School building after an econ refresher course, just before the semester started. We slowly got to know each other after that.

What were your first impressions of each other?  She thought I was quiet but confident. I thought she was the most beautiful woman I had ever met, but I felt that she was out of my league.

What only-at-GW moment did you share as a couple? Our first official date was at the Tonic restaurant. We had just returned from a backpacking trip to Mt. Rogers wilderness along the Appalachian Trail. We limped there from Thurston Hall.

Tell us about your last visit to GW together or how GW has remained important to your life. Our last visit together was for at an open night event for prospective grad students at the Elliott School. We talked to a few interested students and shared our experiences with them.

Anything else you want to share? We actually started hanging out and dating in our final weeks before graduating in 2014. We were friends throughout grad school. We got married last summer in Cozumel, Mexico. We spent our honeymoon scuba diving and relaxing in the sun.
