Colonial Love Q & A: Kris & Martina

Thanks to Kris Harms, SEAS BA ’03, and Martina Angiulo Harms, SPHHS BS ’03, SMHS MSHS ’06, for sharing their story!

Where did you meet on campus? Kris and Martina met their Freshman year, both living on the 2nd floor of Thurston Hall.

What were your first impressions of each other? Kris remembers Martina studying on her bed when he first came to her room to meet her and her roommates. Martina remembers the cute engineer on the opposite corner of the floor. Martina was on the dance team, and Kris found himself attending many basketball games. They were friends through Sophomore year, when they took 2 semesters of Physics together. Martina knew Kris was in the Engineering school, so she thought he would be a good person to study with, but she still did better than him in the class! They started dating Junior year after spending the summer together while Martina was on the Colonial Cabinet and Kris was working for the GW Information Security Team.

What only-at-GW moment did you share as a couple? Attending Monumental Celebration for Commencement 2003, after sitting in the rain on the National Mall during Commencement.

Tell us about your last visit to GW together or how GW has remained important in your life. GW has changed so much since graduation, but there are still familiar stops that bring back so many memories.

Kris and Martina stayed in DC while Martina attended Physician Assistant School at GW, and continued on to work at GW Hospital.  They moved to Hawaii for a job opportunity, which was originally going to be 2 years, but they loved it so much that they have been there for over 6 years.  Martina works at Tripler Army Medical Center as a Physician Assistant, Kris works for Cylance Inc. as a Senior Director.  They were married in 2012, and welcomed their first daughter, Shirley, in 2014.  Martina is due with their 2nd daughter in February 2017, and both parents hope that their daughters will be future Colonials!
