GWAA Recognizes Junaid Shams

Junaid Shams, SPHHS BS ’08, is the co-founder of GSM Nation and is in charge of the company’s financial planning, business innovation and growth strategies. GSM Nation was founded in 2010 with a vision to promote and encourage the U.S. wireless industry to shift away from signing customers into binding contracts. Today, GSM Nation provides retail and wholesale service to one of the largest selection of smart phones in the market, recently reaching sales of over $100 million.

Junaid has been recognized nationally for his efforts in leading GSM Nation. Junaid has been named to Bloomberg Businessweek’s “Top 25 Entrepreneurs under 25,” and Under30CEO’s “Top 30 Most Influential Entrepreneurs under 30.” In 2012, GSM Nation was selected as one of the top 100 companies by Empact100, and received the “Most Industry Disruptive Company” award during a White House ceremony. Junaid and GSM Nation have also been featured in Entrepreneur and Forbes Magazine, signifying the tremendous growth the company has experienced over the last three years.

Junaid recently completed his medical degree coursework from the GW School of Medicine & Health Sciences and is pursuing an orthopaedic surgery residency.
