ESIA Alum Selected for Fellowship in Japan

Robert Sheldon, ESIA MA ’09, has been selected to participate in the Mike Mansfield Fellowship Program.  The Program was established by the U.S. Congress in 1994 to build a corps of U.S. federal government employees with proficiency in Japanese language and practical, firsthand knowledge about Japan and its government.

Sheldon currently serves as the senior policy analyst for the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission and is one of 10 U.S. federal government employees participating in the program.

The Mike Mansfield Fellowship program provides a homestay and language training program to promote U.S.-Asia Relations.  Sheldon will be spending a year in Japan, with a seven-week homestay and intensive Japanese language program in Ishikawa Prefecture, followed by 10 months of placements in the government of Japan.
