GW named Inaugural Education Partner for 2013 FORTUNE Global Forum

GW is the inaugural Education Partner for the 2013 FORTUNE Global Forum, which will be held in Chengdu, China from June 6-8. George Washington President Steven Knapp made the announcement today at an event with former U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, Jr., featuring FORTUNE Managing Editor Andy Serwer.

Since 1995, the FORTUNE Global Forum has convened the heads of global business—the chairs, presidents and CEOs of the world’s largest companies—to discuss the most pressing issues of the day. This year’s forum will bring together multinational CEOs and the heads of China’s most important companies to participate in dialogue about the emerging new trends, and meet the people that are shaping “China’s new future.” Today’s “Conversation with the Honorable Hank Paulson” is part of a series of pre-forum preview events that are taking place around the world.

“We are honored to become the first and so far the only education partner for the FORTUNE Global Forum,” said President Knapp, who noted that the forum will offer invaluable opportunities for GW students and faculty to access forum content. The partnership will allow GW to play a role in the ongoing dialogue about international commerce and emerging new trends in China.

GW has an extensive presence in China and a large population of Chinese students at the university. In the 2012-2013 academic year, the number of Chinese students studying at GW increased by 67 percent to more than 1,200 students. Additionally, there are approximately 200 GW alumni who live in China. GW has also fostered many partnerships with Chinese universities, including Renmin University in Beijing and Fudan University in Shanghai. In 2012, GW launched a new partnership with Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP) in Jiangsu, China to offer advanced degrees to Chinese students. In April 2013, the university will open the GW Confucius Institute, which will promote the study of Chinese language and culture, and also encourage increased research in China studies.
