Dr. Fran Smith, GSEHD EdD ’08

Dr. Fran Smith, GSEHD EdD ’08, recently delivered one of five keynote addresses on December 10, 2013 to kick off the first “Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Congress of the Netherlands” for Handicap Studie in Utrecht, Netherlands. Her message focused on the application of UDL in higher education and entitled, “Universal design for learning: Tight goals, loose means and multiple opportunities for learning”. Dr. Smith was a 2011-12 UDL Postdoctoral Fellow at CAST and Boston College Lynch School of Education. She continues her work in this field now as an independent education consultant based in Richmond, VA, an adjunct professor with GW in the Department of Special Education and Disability Studies, and as a member of the CAST UDL Faculty cadre.
