David M. Howell, CCAS AA ’49, CCAS BS ’50

David Mitchell Howell, CCAS AA ’49, CCAS BS ’50, husband of Loretta Bivens Howell, passed away Nov. 6, 2012 at Rainey Hospice House in Anderson, SC. He was 85. Born in Florence Alabama , he was the son of the late David and Darthula Mitchell Howell. He was of the Holiness Faith and a US Navy Veteran. He started his coaching career at Carrollton High School and was recently inducted into their Athletic Hall of Fame.  In 1952 he became the first football coach at Campbell High School in Smyrna, GA. He was also a former football coach at Furman University and The University of Virginia. He was retired from Sloan Construction Company and was an avid Carolina Gamecock fan. Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are: two sons, Terry Howell of New Jersey and Bill Hubaleck and wife Phyllis of Greenville; a daughter, Lorraine Eskew and husband Thomas of Honea Path; a grandchild, Heather Cox and a great-grandchild, Serenity Eskew.
