Valentines: Kelly Hur & Steven Edward Keating

Kelly & Steven

Kelly Hur, GWSB BBA ’07, & Steven Edward Keating, GWSB BBA ’06, MBA ’08

Kelly & StevenSteven and Kelly met in Professor Lynda Maddox’s Advanced Advertising Class. The entire class worked as a team, Capitol Advertising, to participate in the 2006 American Advertising Federation’s National Student Advertising Competition.

“It was an intensive class where we spent countless days and nights in Duques computer labs, Gelman library and Professor Maddox’s house preparing for the competition. For many of our teammates, this class was a relationship breaker because we were spending so much time working on this project and neglecting our friends,” says Kelly. “But not for Steven and me.”

Also during this time, Steven was working in President Trachtenberg’s office, and Kelly was working in the International Services Office. “My heart grew on Steven because he was a hard-working, intelligent, and, most importantly, honest person,” says Kelly. “I respected him and learned a lot from him.”

Their team, Capitol Advertising, won the first place at the National Student Advertising District 2 Competition in 2006. “Steven and I walked out of the competition not only with a big trophy but also with each other’s heart!” says Kelly.

After they graduated, both wanted to see the world, so they started traveling together.

On a trip to Paris in 2009, Steven proposed at the Eiffel Tower, and the following year on June 12, 2010, they tied the knot in Seoul, Korea.

“Steven’s family, Professor Maddox and her husband Darshan Mehta, many of our Capitol Advertising friends and Steven’s MBA friends flew out to Seoul to attend our wedding,” recalls Kelly. “We felt so fortunate to be surrounded by so many of our GW friends on our very special day.”

Today, Steven works at the GW investment office as an investment officer and instructs two classes in the business school; Kelly recently received a master’s degree in communication and works as a marketing consultant.

And the couple is still tightly connected with the GW community. “We couldn’t be happier about the GW Global Forum in my hometown, Seoul,” says Kelly. “GW is and will always be a special place for us.”
