Colonial Love Q & A: Chrishon & Claire

Thanks to Chrishon McManus, CCAS BA ’11, and Claire McManus, CCAS BS ’12, for sharing their story with us!

Where did you meet on campus? We first met in Ivory Tower in the summer of 2009 (now Shenkman Hall) while having dinner with mutual friends. I transferred to GW and I knew a lot of transfers who did Alternative Spring Break (ASB). Claire also did ASB, and when she returned, she joined our group of friends.

What were your first impressions of each other? My first impression of Claire was that she was very smart and funny. Her first impression of me is that I told dad jokes (and that is still her impression of me). On our first date, I was shocked that she couldn’t name her home state senator and for some reason thought it was a good idea to demonstrate my knowledge by listing as many U.S. senators as I could remember. I don’t remember how I got a second date.

What #onlyatGW moment did you share as friends? We both studied abroad; she in Florence (Spring ’10) and me in Madrid (Fall ’09 and Spring ’10). So we actually didn’t start dating until my senior year.

Tell us about your last visit to GW together or how GW has remained important in your life. We lasted visit GW in December 2016. We were really shocked at how much campus has changed since we graduated in 2011 and 2012, respectively. I’m now on the GWAA Board of Directors, and we both continue to donate to GW.

Anything else you want to share? We were dating long distance for about half our relationship. First I was in law school in Lexington, Virginia, during her senior year. Then she got her first job in Memphis, Tennessee. We both moved back to D.C. for about a year until I got a job in LA. Now we’re both living in LA after getting married on Aug 13, 2016.
