Alumni Weekend 2014 is only one week away! There are countless reasons to return to Foggy Bottom from Sept. 18-21, but we’ve narrowed it down to our 13 favorite:

#1: Make Your Dreams Come True with Daryl Hall and John Oates!

That’s right—this year’s #concert features none other than the #1 selling duo in music history- Daryl Hall and John Oates! Open to all #alumni, this is one of the weekend’s biggest events.

 

#2: Class Reunions! Catch up with old friends and make new ones.  

Class Reunions! Don’t miss this opportunity to catch up, network, and have fun! This year, we are celebrating reunions for classes that end in 4s and 9s: 1964, 1969, 1974, 1979, 1984, 1989, 1994, 1999, 2004, and 2009. The class of 2013 is also celebrating a special 1-year reunion.

 

#3: Chowing down at Taste of GW, featuring alumni-owned businesses.  

A favorite for all ages, Taste of GW showcases the culinary talents of alumni in the restaurant biz. You may even recognize some of your favorite restaurants: Tonic at Quigley’s, Stoney’s on L, and many more!

 

#4: Celebrating #GWDiversity at our Inaugural Celebration of Diversity event!  

Join fellow alumni for an evening of celebration, co-hosted by the Asian, Black, Latino, and LGBT alumni associations, recognizing GW’s progress with diversity and inclusion.  This inaugural event will include dinner, remarks from key alumni of the diverse alumni communities, as well as opportunities to connect with fellow alumni.

 

#5: See what the buzz is all about: GW’s Honeybees!

View the honeybee observation hive, learn from honeybee expert Professor Harmut Doebel of the Department of Biological Sciences, and enjoy honey-themed treats!

 

#6: Learn about the many perks of being an alumnus at the GW Alumni Benefits Fair!

As a GW alumnus, you have access to a suite of discounts and lifelong learning benefits.  From alumni travel and course audit opportunities to deep discounts on insurance and the chance to own an affinity license plate, there is a lot to offer!  Meet representatives from a number of alumni benefit providers to find out how to maximize your alumni experience!

 

#7: Affinity Reunions! 

Don’t have a class reunion this year?  No problem. Reconnect with fellow alumni at the official receptions for athletics, LGBT, multicultural groups, religious/cultural groups, PAF, student association presidents, student organizations, and other affinity groups!

 

#8: Getting a seat at the annual Sunday Political Brunch. 

This annual event is a favorite—you won’t want to miss this alumni brunch and town-hall style discussion on the hottest topics in politics and policy. This year we welcome two of the nation’s top pollsters, Celinda Lake of Lake Research Partners and Ed Goeas of The Tarrance Group, as they share their insights on what will happen when Americans head to the polls in November of 2014 and what those decisions could mean for the next presidential election.

 

#9: Nabbing free GW swag.

#10: Breaking a sweat at the Alumni Fun Run on the National Mall. 

Work up an appetite for the Taste of GW with this fun run around the monuments led by the current men’s and women’s cross country team! All skill levels welcome!

 

#11: See how GW is Making History during the Breaking Ground and Making History Campus Tour.

New groundbreaking inventions, exciting new research, accelerating art and interdisciplinary programs and more is happening at GW.  Take a sneak peak of newly completed and future projects at GW with a tour of the GW Museum, Gelman Library, District House residence hall, the Science and Engineering Hall and the Milken Institute School of Public Health.

 

#12: Attending the All-Alumni Kickoff Party.

You won’t want to miss this casual, all-alumni party in the Smith Center with refreshments and drinks before Daryl Hall and John Oates hit the stage!

 

#13: Remembering what “Only at GW” means.
