Alumna Publishes Book on Losing Weight and Healthy Living

Uchechi Wosu, SMHS MD ’02, Milken Institute SPH MPH ’02, has published the book Straight Talk From the Doctor: Your doctor’s step by step guide to living a healthy life (AuthorHouse).

Wosu, practicing physician in the greater Washington, DC metropolitan area, wanted to write a book that would help her patients and readers at large gain insight into healthy lifestyle changes.

Wosu seeks to address the nation’s obesity problem by informing readers about how to make permanent, successful changes that will help lower the number of overweight and obese Americans.

While addressing the impact of diabetes, high cholesterol and hypertension on a patient’s life, Wosu goes beyond prescribing medication and educates patients on what they can do to control and treat these illnesses. She incorporates dietary changes, exercise counseling, mental well-being and environmental influences into her book in order to address the readers well-being in its totality.

“My goal is to give people the knowledge they need to live a healthier life without suffering from the many chronic diseases that plague our community,” she explains.

Wosu, a native Washingtonian, earned a dual MD/MPH degree from GW and is also a graduate of the Institute of Integrative Medicine, where she became a certified health coach. Her mission is to help her patients take control of their lives and health.
