Do you enjoy craft beer? If so, you won’t want to miss a new project by Nicholas Gingold, CCAS BA ’09.

Gingold, a former photographer for The GW Hatchet, recently launched a Kickstarter campaign to support his book, California BrewMasters.

The book features interviews with and portraits of more than 45 craft brewers throughout the state of California. More than two years in the making, Gingold sat down with some of the best minds in craft beer to conduct in depth interviews and make portraits of each brewer.

“Each photo was taken either in their breweries or their surrounding communities,” explains Gingold. “The idea is to bring a face to the beer and to let beer fans everywhere meet the makers of some of their favorite brews.

Gingold has been working as a professional photographer since graduating from GW. While living in DC for 6 years, he was a photojournalist, covering both national politics and local news. He moved back to his native California in 2011 to start up his own photo business, where, he says, the beer scene immediately jumped out at him. “I knew I had to create a new type of project around it,” he explains.

Today, Gingold is excited to see his project coming to fruition. He plans to have “a big, beautiful, 200 page coffee table book” out on shelves by June 2014.

To make this happen, he’s trying to raise $25,000 by March 18th. “[This] is something I hold really near and dear to my heart,” explains Gingold. “As a photographer and craft beer fan, I wanted to create something that hadn’t been done before.”
