Alumnus Publishes Book About Afghanistan

Carlos Terrones, CCAS BA ’98, has recently published the book, The Other Front in Afghanistan: Stories of Maiwand Building Governance & Development.

Terrones, an international development practitioner, has worked in international development projects related to good governance and civil society in Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Latin America. He worked in Afghanistan and Iraq for the U.S. Department of State, and The Other Front narrates his experience in the District of Maiwand – Kandahar Province.

In Iraq and Afghanistan, Terrones served as special advisor on governance to the Deputy Commanding General 1st Infantry Division; Deputy Commanding General 82nd Airborne Division; Commander 2nd Battalion, 34th Armor Regiment; Commander 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (LI); Deputy Commander 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment; Village Stability Operations (VSO) – Joint and Combined Special Operations Task Force Afghanistan; Commander 3rd Squadron, 71st Cavalry Regiment; and Task Force Commander 1st Battalion, 2nd Infantry Regiment.

Terrones has presented the book at Columbia University – The Arnold A. Saltzman Institute of War and Peace Studies and the U.S./French Reserves Officers Association. The Other Front has been recommended by the U.S. Army Village Stability Operations (VSO) – Joint and Combined Special Operations Task Force Afghanistan, USAID, U.S. Department of State, World Bank, and International NGOs. The U.S. Army War College will include the book in its library. The book was approved for its publication by the U.S. Department of State.
