CCAS Alumnus Appointed Priest-in-Charge

Reverend Christopher Cunningham, CCAS BA ’83, has been appointed Priest-in-Charge at the Vestry of St. James Episcopal Church in Birmingham, MI.

Rev. Cunningham comes to Birmingham from the Diocese of Southern Virginia, most recently serving as Rector of Johns Memorial Episcopal Church in Farmville, VA.

Rev. Cunningham has significant experience serving people and the Church. He has been on the Board of a local Community Assistance Agency, volunteered at a local food bank, and worked with the local ministerial association.

His ministry in the Episcopal Church includes serving on the Executive Council (Board of Directors) of the Episcopal Church, Deputy to the 2012 General Convention in Indianapolis IN; in the Diocese of Southern Virginia he served as Dean for his Convocation, and on the Commission on Ministry and Budget Committee for the Diocese; in the Diocese of Virginia he has served on their Executive Board.

Prior to his ordination, Fr. Cunningham served several tours on active duty in the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. When not on active duty, he was a variously a business owner/consultant, defense consultant, and Director of Information Technology at Virginia Theological Seminary.

Rev. Cunningham received a BA in political science from GW, and earned a masters of divinity from Wesley Theological Seminary, Washington, D.C. He has three adult children and is looking forward to getting married this October.
