Attend a Global Security Panel at the Elliott School

The Sigur Center for Asian Studies at GW’s Elliott School of International Affairs invites all alumni to a panel discussion about global security and the AirSeaBattle Plan, entitled, “The AirSeaBattle Plan: Who Authorized Preparations for War with China?”

AirSeaBattle (ASB) is a new system that will intensify the strategic atmosphere in the Pacific. A US official told The Washington Post that ASB is milestone in treating China with new “Cold War” thinking.

An article by Amitai Etzioni provides detailed information about ASB. Etzioni will also join the panel discussion.

The discussion will be moderated by Edward A. McCord, director of the Sigur Center and professor of international affairs.

In addition to Amitai Etzioni, confirmed panelists include J. Stapleton Roy, former US Ambassador to China and T.X. Hammes, senior research fellow at the Institute for National Strategic Studies at the National Defense University.

The event will take place on July 10th, 2013, from 4:00 – 6:00 pm in room 405 of the Marvin Center, 800 21st Street NW, Washington, DC.  It is open to the public and the press, and will be taped; a discussion will follow the panel.
