Admiral Samuel Locklear, III, GWSB MPA ‘92 is the new Commander of the United States Pacific Command (USPACOM), Camp H.M. Smith, Hawaii. USPACOM’s Area of Responsibility (AOR) encompasses about half the earth’s surface, stretching from the waters off the west coast of the U.S. to the western border of India, and from Antarctica to the North Pole. USPACOM is one of six geographic Unified Combatant Commands of the United States Armed Forces. Adm. Locklear is a 1977 graduate of the United States Naval Academy. He is a 1992 graduate of the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, and holds a master’s degree in Public Administration from GW. His personal decorations include the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, Distinguished Service Medal with one gold star, Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit with four gold stars, Bronze Star Medal, and numerous individual, campaign and unit awards.
