Girard Reuel Jetton, Jr., SEAS BS ’45, CCAS BA ’47

Girard Reuel Jetton, Jr., SEAS BS ’45, CCAS BA ’47, of Findlay, OH passed away on Oct. 7, 2012 at the Saline Evangelical Home, Saline, MI. He was 88. Born on Feb. 19, 1924 in Washington DC. He earned a law degree from Harvard University, preceded by two undergraduate degrees in economics and engineering from GW. Jetton served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. In 1948, he married Mera Veleda Munn. The couple had three children as well as seven grandchildren. Jetton began his career as an attorney in the chief counsel’s office of the Internal Revenue Service before he became special assistant to the attorney general in the tax division of the U.S. Department of Justice. He practiced law at a private firm in Washington, DC until 1960, when he joined Marathon Oil Company. Starting as a tax attorney, he rose through the ranks to become Marathon’s Corporate Secretary, retiring after 25 years in 1985. Girard was also known for his kind spirit and generosity. Active with a number of charitable and volunteer organizations for many years, he served as president of the Board of Trustees of the Blanchard Valley Hospital Association in Findlay.
