LGBT Alumni Association announces executive board committee

A GW LGBT reception

After several years of planning and outreach efforts, the GW LGBT Alumni Association recently assembled its first official executive board committee.

The board’s establishment follows five years of consistent programming and collaboration with GW’s Office of Alumni Relations. Event platforms have included GW’s Alumni Weekend, Capital Pride and the Human Rights Campaign.

The board’s volunteers have demonstrated strong leadership in engaging and expanding GW’s LGBT community. Committee members include:

Chair: Morgan Corr, CCAS BA‘07

Vice-Chair: Charlie Leizear, CCAS BS‘07, GWSB MBA‘12

Membership Chair: Jon Tollefson, ESIA BA‘05, ESIA MA‘08

Marketing Chair: Rudy Alvarez, SEAS BA‘04

Events Chair: Michael DiNapoli, CCAS BA‘08

Campus Liaison: Michael R. Komo, CCAS BA’11, GSPM MPS ‘12

Support for the LGBT community at GW has grown substantially over the past few years, and committee member Michael R. Komo considers the LGBT Alumni Association a “huge milestone.” Since arriving at GW in 2007, Komo has been a part of the community that has successfully advocated for the establishment of numerous resources and programs for the LGBT community, including the LGBT Resource Center, LGBT-inclusive non-discrimination policy, the LGBT minor, gender-neutral housing and an LGBT mentor program.

“By having the LGBT Alumni Association,” Komo says, “we will be able to increase the already outstanding level of commitment we have to LGBT students, alumni and their allies.”
