Harry Clark Bates Jr., GSEHD MD ’43

Harry Clark Bates Jr., GSEHD MD ’43, passed away on May 31, 2012 at the age of 94.

BatesĀ attended medical school at GW, receiving his MD degree in 1943. After an internship and residency at GW he entered the Army Medical Corps as a Captain during World War II. Following the war Clark had a practice of general medicine in Arlington, Va. He was on the clinical faculty at GW and taught medical ethics to residents.

He became president of the Arlington County Medical Society in 1955. He served on the Virginia State Board of Medicine and represented Virginia on the House of Delegates of the American Medical Association. In 1958 he served as the president of the Medical Society of Virginia.
