6 things to do this summer

GW Banner

GW BannerThere’s always a lot to do during the summer, but check out this list of six things you shouldn’t miss:

1. Catch a baseball game with fellow alumni
GW alumni are meeting at baseball stadiums across the country. Folks in St. Louis, Atlanta, Los Angeles, and Miami have already hit the fields, but for those in Boston, Denver, San Francisco, San Diego and Philly, there’s still time to grab tickets. And because there are a few tentative games in the works and other regional events going on, don’t forget to visit the full calendar of events.

2. Add to your summer reading list
GW requires all incoming freshmen to participate in a summer reading program – so why not join this year’s incoming students and read War, by Sebastian Junger, a New York Times Bestseller? Once you finish that, consider checking out books written by your classmates — see the Alumni Authors listing on our site.

3. View 25+ GWebinars for free
Did you know the GWebinar archives contains more than 25 professional development sessions? Some of the topics include: 15 financial myths demystified, preparing for a career expo, creating a résumé that tells your story and how to make the most of LinkedIn. Visit GWebinars on Demand for access to all these sessions and more. (While you’re there, register to watch the Securing a Job in International Development live on July 30.)

4. Save money on Club Quarters hotels, Super Shuttle, and Zipcar
For those of you traveling this summer, be sure to check out the special rates GW alumni can access at Club Quarters hotels, Super Shuttle, and Zipcar.

5. Take George on vacation for a chance to win an iPad
In preparation for Alumni Weekend 2012 (September 27-30), we want you to share your pictures with George, whether you take him on a family trip to Greece or to the local zoo. Just by sharing your photo by Sept. 14, you’ll automatically be entered to win an iPad.

6. Mark Your Calendars: Register for Alumni Weekend!
Last but not least, don’t forget to register for the Alumni Weekend 2012, Sept. 27-30. Earth, Wind & Fire will kick off the celebrations with an all alumni concert at the Smith Center! Special reunions include classes of 2007, 2002, 1997, 1992, 1987, 1982, and 1962, along with this this year’s affinity reunion – former student leaders. However, all alumni and their families are invited to attend – there are more than 60 events taking place! Registration opens July 30.
