The University of Mississippi Medical Center’s planned affiliation with Health Management Associates is the catalyst for major leadership changes at UMC.
David Putt, SMHS AS ’77, who has been chief executive officer of University Hospitals and Health System, will transition into a liaison post between UMC and HMA. The affiliation will allow UMC to grow its class size and place more residents in Mississippi hospitals, a strategy to increase the number of physicians in the state.
A retired naval officer, Putt joined UMC in 1995. He served as interim CEO of University Hospitals and Health System beginning in August 2008 and was named CEO in February of this year.
