Maj. Gen. William Max Schoning, ESIA MS ’68

Maj. Gen. William Max Schoning, ESIA MS ’68, passed away Sept. 27. Gen. Schoning began his military career in May 1943 under the Aviation Cadet Program and earned his pilot wings. He received glider pilot training and flew 80 missions in Europe with the 316th Troop Carrier Group during World War II. In Jan 1966, he was reassigned to HQS, U.S. Air Force at the Pentagon, where he held various key-level positions until 1974. He then assumed the directorship of the Inter-American Defense College at Ft. McNair, Washington, DC.  Read a full tribute at The Kitsap Sun.
